Afghanistan secured a dramatic victory over England, knocking them out of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in a nail-biting encounter at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium.
After winning the toss, Afghanistan skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi opted to bat first. Despite an early setback, losing two wickets for just 15 runs, Ibrahim Zadran anchored the innings with a stunning 177 off 146 balls, smashing six sixes and 12 fours. His brilliant knock powered Afghanistan to a strong total of 325/7 in 50 overs.
England’s bowling attack saw Jofra Archer claim three wickets, while Liam Livingstone and Adil Rashid picked up two and one, respectively.
In response, England fought hard but fell just short, getting bowled out for 317 in 49.5 overs. Joe Root led the charge with a magnificent 120 off 111 balls, building crucial partnerships, but wickets kept tumbling at the other end.
Afghanistan’s Azmatullah Omarzai was the star with the ball, taking a match-winning five-wicket haul to seal a historic win for his team.
