Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) has received a major boost with a US$ 50,000 sponsorship from CABS, a Zimbabwe-based financial institution. The funding is aimed at directly supporting the country’s five first-class provincial teams — Eagles, Rhinos, Tuskers, Mountaineers and Southern Rocks.
The sponsorship will benefit teams participating in Zimbabwe’s three domestic tournaments — the Logan Cup, Pro50 Championship and the domestic T20 competition. According to a ZC press release, the funding will be allocated under a direct-to-team model that ensures financial transparency and better governance. It will allow teams to invest in crucial areas including player welfare, coaching and talent development.
ZC managing director Givemore Makoni expressed gratitude to CABS, saying, “This kind of corporate support plays an important role in strengthening the game’s foundation and enabling long-term growth.”
He added that the sponsorship would give provincial teams greater financial stability and the capacity to make consistent investments in player development — a key step toward building a stronger cricketing pipeline for the country.
CABS managing director Mehluli Mpofu said the institution sees the sponsorship as a broader investment in the future of Zimbabwean youth. “Across the country, there are talented, passionate youths who see sport as a pathway to opportunity, purpose and pride,” he said.
Mpofu added that by supporting domestic cricket, CABS is helping build platforms for growth and opening doors for young Zimbabweans to pursue their dreams.
CABS has a long history with Zimbabwean cricket, dating back to 2004 when it supported local T20 competitions. Over the years, the institution has consistently backed development initiatives aimed at identifying and nurturing emerging cricket talent.
The announcement comes during a historic year for Zimbabwe cricket, with the national side having already played seven Tests in 2025. The country recently hosted a T20I tri-series featuring South Africa and New Zealand, and will now welcome New Zealand again for a two-match Test series starting July 30.
