India defeated America by seven wickets in the T20 World Cup yesterday at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York and qualified for the Super Eight stage.
India easily achieved the US target of 111 runs after losing three wickets in the 19th over. Surya Kumar Yadav scored 50 runs, and Shiv Dubey remained unbeaten with 31 runs.
With India’s win against the US, one hurdle has been removed from Pakistan’s qualification for the Super Eight.
Pakistan has played three matches in this World Cup, winning only against Canada; the road to the Super Eight is difficult for Pakistan but not impossible.
The following results from Group A teams will ensure Pakistan’s qualification in the Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup.
June 14: USA vs Ireland. Pakistan needs Ireland to win.
June 15: Canada vs India. Pakistan needs India to win.
June 16: Ireland vs Pakistan. Pakistan needs a win.
If all the above matches have the same results as listed, then Pakistan will have 4 points from four matches, India will have 8, and the USA and Pakistan will have equal points.
At the end of the group stage games, Canada and Ireland will have 2,2 points.
However, Pakistan will need to win by a big margin to improve their net run rate against Ireland. They and the USA will have equal points, so the net run rate will come into play.
Moreover, the green shirts and Pakistani fans should hope that America does not win the match between America and Ireland and that the match is not due to rain. Otherwise, it will be difficult for Pakistan.
