Former Pakistan all rounder Imad Wasim has announced that he is getting a divorce after more than six years of marriage.
In a statement shared on Instagram on Sunday, Imad said he had filed for divorce after long standing issues in the relationship. He said repeated conflicts over the past few years could not be resolved.
Imad requested privacy for himself and his family and asked people not to share or reuse old photos of the couple. He also warned against speculation and false narratives surrounding the matter. He said he would take legal action if anyone tried to defame him or involve others in the issue.
The 37 year old said he remains the father of his children and will continue to take full responsibility for their care.
Separately, Imad’s wife Sania Ashfaq also posted a detailed statement on Instagram. She alleged the involvement of a third party in the breakdown of the marriage.
Sania said she was writing from a place of deep pain and claimed her home had broken apart, leaving her children without their father. She said she is a mother of three, including a five month old baby who she claimed has not yet been held by his father.
She said the marriage faced difficulties like many others but continued for years. She added that she stayed committed as a wife and mother and made efforts to save the family. According to her statement, the involvement of a third party who wanted to marry Imad became the final reason behind the separation.
Sania also spoke about challenges she said she faced during pregnancy. She alleged emotional distress, mistreatment and abandonment, and said she remained patient for the sake of her children.
She questioned the legal validity of the divorce process and said the matter remains under review. She also claimed she has documented evidence related to her allegations and said she has received threats to stop her from sharing it. She said she would respond through legal channels if threatened.
Sania said she spoke out to share her truth and to stand up for herself, her children and other women who feel pressured to stay silent.
Imad Wasim and Sania Ashfaq married in 2019 and have three children together.
