Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has responded to speculation linking him with the IPL 2027 auction, firmly denying reports that he is preparing to enter the player pool as a British citizen.
The 34-year-old addressed the rumours on social media on Monday, November 2, after reports suggested he could register for the upcoming auction using his British nationality. The speculation gained attention following claims that Amir was considering an IPL opportunity after acquiring a UK passport earlier this year.
Amir took to X to clarify the situation, writing: “Hi everyone just wanted to clarify news regarding IPL is not true.” His statement directly contradicted reports suggesting that he was preparing to register for the IPL 2027 auction.
The rumours had emerged after Amir was reportedly linked with the Afghanistan Premier League draft as a UK national. His British citizenship had also raised questions about his eligibility to participate in the Indian Premier League, where Pakistani players have not featured since 2008.
Amir’s nationality has changed his status in several franchise competitions. He has represented Nottinghamshire’s Notts Outlaws in the T20 Blast and Trent Rockets in The Hundred as a domestic player in England. However, his eligibility to register for an auction does not mean that he has decided to participate.
The fast bowler had previously discussed the possibility of playing in the IPL during an interview in August 2026. At that time, he confirmed that he would return to the Pakistan Super League in 2027 as an overseas player but remained undecided about the Indian competition.
“I will play in the PSL in 2027 as an overseas player. As for the IPL, I don’t know yet whether I will participate,” Amir had said.
His latest clarification is therefore important, as it makes clear that reports of his IPL 2027 auction entry should not be treated as confirmation of his participation. Amir has not announced that he will register for the auction.
Amir retired from international cricket in 2024 after representing Pakistan in 36 Tests, 61 ODIs and 62 T20Is. He remains active in franchise cricket and has continued to explore opportunities in overseas competitions.
For now, the former Pakistan left-arm pacer has put the IPL speculation to rest, while his confirmed plan is to feature in the PSL as an overseas player from the 2027 season.
