South Africa’s cricket team faces more challenges ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy, as fast bowler Gerald Coetzee has sustained a hamstring injury. This injury adds to the team’s woes, coming shortly after the announcement of the Champions Trophy squad.
Previously, Anrich Nortje was included in the squad but had to withdraw due to an injury. Gerald Coetzee was named as Nortje’s replacement, but now his participation is also uncertain because of his hamstring injury.
Due to this setback, Coetzee’s availability for the tournament is in doubt. According to media reports, a final decision on whether Coetzee will play in the tournament, set to be held in Pakistan, will be made in the first week of February.
Cricket South Africa’s medical team will closely monitor Coetzee’s condition. The ICC Champions Trophy is scheduled to begin on February 19 and will be hosted in Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates.
