Zimbabwe wicketkeeper Clive Madande turned the 147-year history of Test cricket upside down.
The wicketkeeper of the Zimbabwean team, who visited Ireland for the first time for Test cricket, took the unwanted record of England’s Les Ames 90 years ago.
On the first day of the only test match against Ireland, the Zimbabwean team was all out by scoring 210 runs in the first innings. Later, Ireland started batting and returned to the pavilion after scoring 250 runs, but the Irish team got a lead of 40 runs.
In this test match, Clive Madande conceded 42 byes, the Zimbabwean keeper failed to catch the balls behind the wicket, and the Irish batters stole the runs.
Poor wicket-keeping set a new Test cricket record, with debutant Madande returning to the pavilion for a wicket.
In 1934, England’s Les Ames conceded 37 byes in Australia’s total of 327 in a Test at The Oval.
