Australia defeated India by 184 runs in the Test match in Melbourne, after which India’s entry into the Test Championship final became difficult.
On the fifth day of the Boxing Day Test played in Melbourne, India was given a target of 340 runs by Australia to win. Australia started the second innings with a lead of 104 runs in the first innings and were dismissed for 234 runs in the second innings. Marnus Labuschagne was outstanding with a score of 70 runs. For India, Jasprit Bumrah took five and Mohammed Siraj took three wickets.
Kangaroo captain Pat Cummins was adjudged the man of the match for his all-round performance in both innings.
