The BCCI is currently working on three possible plans to resume the suspended IPL 2025 season, with a final decision expected later today (May 12). The IPL Governing Council is scheduled to meet in the afternoon to finalize how the remaining matches will be held.
There are 16 matches left in the tournament, including the four playoff games.
According to sources, one of the proposed options follows the usual home-and-away format across different cities, though Dharamsala might be excluded. The other two options suggest a limited-venue approach, possibly using only a few southern cities like Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Chennai. Cricbuzz contacted the cricket associations of these cities, but they said they haven’t received any official communication yet.
A confirmation on the final plan is likely to come within hours. Although nothing has been officially announced, the IPL and BCCI have reportedly advised teams to gather back at their respective bases, hinting that the league could restart by May 16 or 17.
Interestingly, even members of the Governing Council have not received an official notification about the meeting yet. However, such meetings can be called on very short notice — the last one was called at 10:45 AM and wrapped up by 11 AM when the decision to suspend the league was made.
Due to safety and logistical concerns, the BCCI may avoid organizing matches across too many cities. However, no final word has come on this either.
With the uncertainty that led to the league’s suspension last week, it’s unlikely that all foreign players who had left India will return. Still, the BCCI’s main focus now is to complete the tournament — even if it has to be done without the full squad of overseas stars. It’s clearly an unusual and challenging situation for everyone involved.
