Canada have officially booked their place in the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup after a convincing seven-wicket win over the Bahamas in the Americas regional final held in Ontario. With this result, Canada became the 13th team to qualify for the expanded 20-team tournament, which will be hosted by India and Sri Lanka.
This marks Canada’s second consecutive appearance at a T20 World Cup. They had previously secured a spot in the 2024 edition, held in the West Indies and USA, through the same qualification pathway.
Canada’s qualification was confirmed after their fifth straight win in the regional tournament, which also featured Bermuda and the Cayman Islands. Their dominant performance ensured a top-of-the-table finish, making the outcome of the remaining two matches irrelevant for their qualification.
The list of teams already qualified includes co-hosts India and Sri Lanka, along with Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, Ireland, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, USA, and West Indies. Seven more teams will join them from the remaining regional qualifiers — two from Europe, two from Africa, and three from the Asia-East Asia Pacific group.
With the USA already qualified, Canada entered the tournament as favourites and lived up to expectations. They recorded emphatic victories throughout the event, winning by margins of 110 runs, 59 runs, 10 wickets, 42 runs, and most recently, seven wickets.
In their latest outing, Canada bowled out the Bahamas for just 57 runs in 19.5 overs. Kaleem Sana led the bowling attack with figures of 3 for 6 in four overs. Ansh Patel supported well with 2 for 7, and Shivam Sharma chipped in with 3 for 16 from 2.5 overs.
Chasing a small target, Canada wasted no time. They wrapped up the game in only 5.3 overs, with Dilpreet Bajwa smashing an unbeaten 36 off 14 balls to top-score and seal the win in style.
Canada’s final game in the tournament is scheduled for Sunday against Bermuda, but with their place in the 2026 T20 World Cup already secured, the pressure is off. Their performance in this qualifier has been a clear statement of intent as they now look ahead to competing on the global stage once again.
