Hampshire have signed explosive Australian batter Chris Lynn for the rest of their group-stage matches in the ongoing T20 Blast. With six South Group games left, Lynn’s arrival brings experience and firepower to a side looking to revive their campaign.
Lynn joins the squad following the departure of South African duo Lhuan-dre Pretorius and Dewald Brevis, who were called up for national duty ahead of the 2025 Zimbabwe Tri-series.
The 35-year-old is no stranger to English cricket. He previously played for Northamptonshire in the 2022 and 2023 Blast seasons, scoring 880 runs in 23 innings at a strike rate of 146.91, including five fifties and three hundreds. He also has a personal connection to Hampshire, having played club cricket for Gosport Borough in his teenage years.
“It’s great to return to Hampshire, this time as a pro. I had a brilliant time playing club cricket in the county a while ago now,” Lynn told the BBC. “The Hawks are a hugely successful side and hopefully I can play a big part in the second-half of the Blast to take the team to Finals Day.”
Lynn last played for Adelaide Strikers in the 2024-25 Big Bash League and has remained active in the global T20 circuit since making his final appearances for Australia in 2018. Known for his aggressive top-order batting, Lynn adds valuable depth to Hampshire’s lineup.
Hampshire’s current form in the tournament has been inconsistent. After eight matches, they have won three, lost four, and one match against Middlesex ended in a tie under the DLS method. They have lost four of their last five games and will be hoping Lynn’s inclusion helps them turn their fortunes around in the race to Finals Day.
