The Hobart Hurricanes secured their maiden Big Bash League (BBL) title with a remarkable performance, led by Mitchell Owen’s electrifying century in the final of BBL Season 14.
The highly anticipated final took place on Monday between the Hobart Hurricanes and Sydney Thunder. Hobart, playing at home, won the toss and opted to field first.
Batting first, Sydney Thunder posted a competitive total of 182 for 7 in their 20 overs. Jason Sangha top-scored with 67 runs, while captain David Warner contributed a solid 48 runs to anchor the innings.
In response, the Hurricanes chased down the target of 183 runs with ease, thanks to Mitchell Owen’s explosive century. The chase was completed in just 15 overs, with the team losing only 3 wickets. This incredible performance handed Hobart their first-ever BBL title.
Mitchell Owen’s innings was nothing short of extraordinary. He smashed a stunning 108 runs off just 42 balls, including 11 sixes and 6 fours. His century came off just 39 balls, equaling the record for the fastest century in BBL history, previously set by Craig Simmons of Perth Scorchers in 2014.
