India have been fined for maintaining a slow over rate during their Women’s World Cup match against Australia on October 12 in Visakhapatnam.
Harmanpreet Kaur’s side was found to be one over short of the target after allowances were made during their unsuccessful defence of 330. Australia went on to win the match by three wickets with six balls remaining.
There was no need for a formal hearing as Harmanpreet accepted the charge and the proposed sanction from the match officials. As a result, the Indian team was fined 5% of their match fees.
According to the ICC Code of Conduct, players are fined 5% of their match fee for every over their team fails to bowl within the allotted time.
India are currently placed fourth on the points table. They began their campaign with two consecutive wins in the league stage but have now suffered back-to-back defeats against South Africa and Australia. Their next match will be against England in Indore on Sunday.
