India have been confirmed as the hosts of the inaugural Women’s Champions Trophy, with the tournament scheduled to take place from February 14 to 28, 2027.
The event was originally set to be hosted by Sri Lanka but has now been moved to India following concerns over government interference in Sri Lanka Cricket.
The tournament will be played across two venues, the Cricket Club of India at Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai and the Vadodara International Cricket Stadium in Vadodara.
According to the International Cricket Council, Bangladesh, South Africa and India were assessed as potential hosts before the ICC Board officially ratified India as the host on September 1.
Sri Lanka Cricket is currently being managed by a government-appointed Transformation Committee, which has been tasked with overseeing reforms to the organisation’s constitutional and governance structure. ICC policy does not permit politically appointed interim administrations.
Sri Lanka had previously lost the hosting rights for the 2024 Under-19 World Cup, which was subsequently moved to South Africa. The ICC said Sri Lanka Cricket continues to work on the required reforms outlined during the ICC Annual Conference in July.
Six teams will participate in the inaugural Women’s Champions Trophy, including India, Australia, England, New Zealand, South Africa and Sri Lanka. The tournament will follow a round-robin format, with the final scheduled for February 28.
ICC Chairman Jay Shah said the inaugural edition represents an exciting new chapter for women’s cricket and will bring the world’s leading teams together in a high-quality competition.
He also highlighted the opportunity to create greater momentum for the women’s game, with a major ICC women’s event now scheduled to take place every year.
