Mohammed Siraj will miss India’s upcoming T20I series against Ireland and England after the BCCI decided to rest the fast bowler as part of its workload management plan.
The BCCI announced that Siraj will take a precautionary break following discussions between the medical team and the team management. The board wants to ensure that the pacer remains fully fit ahead of a busy international calendar.
“Following discussions between the BCCI Medical Team and the Team Management, Siraj has been advised a period of rest as part of his workload management programme,” the BCCI said in a statement.
“The decision has been taken as a precautionary measure to ensure adequate recovery ahead of a long international season.”
India have named Prasidh Krishna as Siraj’s replacement for the T20I squads. The Karnataka fast bowler recently played alongside Siraj for Gujarat Titans during IPL 2026.
Prasidh has represented India in five T20 Internationals and has taken eight wickets in the format. His most recent T20I appearance came against Australia in Guwahati in November 2023.
The right-arm pacer is also part of India’s squad for the upcoming ODI series against Afghanistan national cricket team, which begins on June 13. Siraj was not included in the ODI squad.
Both bowlers recently featured in India’s Test victory over Afghanistan in New Chandigarh.
Siraj played a key role for Gujarat Titans during IPL 2026, appearing in 17 matches as the franchise reached the final. Prasidh featured in 12 games and contributed significantly to GT’s successful campaign.
India’s decision to rest Siraj reflects the packed schedule awaiting the team in the coming months. After the T20I series against Ireland and England, India will also play ODI matches in England before touring Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka, and New Zealand later in the season.
India will begin their T20I assignment with two matches against Ireland cricket team in Belfast on June 26 and June 28. The team will then travel to England for a five-match T20I series scheduled from July 1 to July 11.
