Nepal and Oman have secured their places in the 2026 T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka, even before facing each other in the Super Six stage of the Asia-EAP Qualifier in Al Amerat. One more team from the tournament will join them in next year’s global event.
Their qualification was confirmed after UAE defeated Samoa by 77 runs earlier in the day. The result ensured that both Oman and Nepal, who currently occupy the top two spots on the Super Six points table, could not be overtaken. UAE are third with four points, while only net run rate separates Oman and Nepal at the top.
UAE will now face Japan in a crucial match on October 16 as they look to keep their qualification hopes alive.
For Nepal, wristspinner Sandeep Lamichhane has played a key role in their success. He has taken ten wickets in four matches at an average of 9.40 and an economy rate of under six. His brilliant spell of 5 for 18 against Qatar was instrumental in bowling them out for 142 while defending a modest total of 148.
Oman’s left-arm seamer Jiten Ramanandi has also been impressive, picking up seven wickets in four innings at an economy rate of 5.90. He had earlier caught attention during the Asia Cup with crucial wickets of Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Varma against India.
