India have suffered another injury setback ahead of their upcoming white-ball tours, with Nitish Kumar Reddy ruled out of the Ireland and England series because of a left quadriceps injury.
The all-rounder aggravated the injury during the third ODI against Afghanistan in Chennai last week. He is now set to undergo rehabilitation at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru for at least a month. The team management hopes he will recover in time for India’s two-Test tour of Sri Lanka later this year.
Reddy first picked up the injury while bowling in the opening ODI against Afghanistan in Dharamsala. As a precaution, he missed the second ODI in Lucknow but returned for the final match in Chennai. He bowled six overs and conceded 42 runs without taking a wicket. After the game, he reportedly experienced discomfort, and further assessment confirmed the injury setback.
His absence leaves India without one of their key seam-bowling all-rounders. Earlier, Hardik Pandya was also ruled out of the Ireland and England tours as he continues recovering from a leg injury. Pandya aggravated the problem during a conditioning session at the BCCI Centre of Excellence following the IPL 2026 season. No timeline has been announced for his return.
India could look at Shivam Dube and Harshit Rana as possible options. However, Dube is primarily a batter, while Rana is mainly a fast bowler. If the selectors want a direct replacement for Reddy, Suryansh Shedge could be considered.
Shedge recently represented India A in a tri-series in Sri Lanka. He impressed with the bat and scored his maiden List A half-century against Sri Lanka A. However, his bowling performances were less convincing, with just two wickets from five matches.
India are scheduled to play two T20Is against Ireland on June 26 and June 28 before travelling to England for a five-match T20I series starting on July 1. The England tour will also include three ODIs. The Ireland series will be India’s first T20I assignment since winning the T20 World Cup earlier this year, with Shreyas Iyer set to lead the side as the new T20I captain.
