Pakistan booked their place in the Women’s Asia Cup semi-final with a commanding 72-run victory over Hong Kong in their final Group A match in Dubai on September 7.
After opting to bat first, Pakistan posted 143 for 8, with Shawaal Zulfiqar leading the way with a composed 47 off 35 balls. Ayesha Zafar added 26 off 19, while captain Fatima Sana contributed an unbeaten-looking 24 off 24 to help Pakistan reach a competitive total on a slow surface.
Hong Kong’s bowlers were led by Joyleen Kaur, who produced a career-best 4 for 19. She dismissed several key Pakistan batters with disciplined bowling, but Hong Kong were unable to maintain the pressure throughout the innings.
Pakistan’s bowling attack then completely dominated the chase. Hong Kong were bowled out for just 71 in 19 overs, with Kary Chan top-scoring with 30.
The standout performer was left-arm spinner Nashra Sandhu, who made history by claiming a remarkable 6 for 7. It was the first six-wicket haul by a Pakistan bowler in a women’s T20I. Sandhu struck after the powerplay and dismantled Hong Kong’s middle and lower order with superb accuracy.
Pakistan’s strong bowling effort ensured Hong Kong never came close to challenging the target. The victory also secured Pakistan second place in Group A, setting up a semi-final against Sri Lanka on Friday.
With their batting showing signs of improvement and their bowling attack producing a record-breaking performance, Pakistan will enter the semi-final with plenty of confidence.
