Former Bangladesh captain and all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan’s inclusion in the squad for the 2025 Champions Trophy in Pakistan appears uncertain. According to media reports, Shakib’s bowling action was deemed suspect during the English County Championship.
Last month, he underwent a bowling action test at Loughborough University in England, which he failed. As a result, he was banned from bowling in both domestic and international cricket. However, Shakib is set to undergo another bowling test in Chennai, after which his future in the sport will be decided. If he fails this test as well, his participation in the Champions Trophy squad will remain doubtful.
Bangladesh’s first match in the Champions Trophy is scheduled against India on February 20 in Dubai. All eight participating teams must submit their final squads by January 12.
Despite the uncertainty, Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto and BCB President Faruque Ahmed are supporting Shakib’s inclusion in the team. However, there is disagreement among the selectors regarding his place in the squad.
