Former captain Shakib-al-Hasan joined the Bangladesh team to participate in the series of 2 Test matches against Pakistan.
The senior cricketer arrived in Lahore directly from the US, representing the Bangla Tigers Mississauga in the Global T20 League in Canada.
Former parliamentarian Shakib-al-Hassan, who won the election this year on the Awami League ticket of Sheikh Hasina Wajid’s party, was in Canada with his family before the government was overthrown. Still, he came to Pakistan due to the ongoing protests and violence in the country.
Shakib Al Hasan’s participation in the two Test matches against Pakistan was uncertain; however, the board confirmed the all-rounder’s availability in the World Test Championship cycle matches.
Apart from them, Sharaful Islam, the fast bowler representing the Bengal Tigers in the Canadian T20 League, also arrived in Lahore.
It should be noted that due to the current wave of unrest in Bangladesh, PCB suggested to Bangladesh that if they come to Pakistan soon, they will be allowed to practice in Lahore, which the BCB officials accepted.
After the end of Hasina Wajid’s government, Bangladesh Cricket Board Director Iftikhar Ahmed said that he did not oppose Shakib’s inclusion; the team would be formed on merit.
It should be noted that Bangladesh and Pakistan will play the first Test match of the series from August 21 to 25 at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, while the second match will be played at the National Stadium Karachi from August 30 to September 3.
