West Indies fast bowler Shamar Joseph has been ruled out of the ongoing ODI series against Bangladesh after experiencing discomfort in his shoulder.
The 26-year-old was expected to return to international cricket this weekend after missing the Test tour of India but has now been sidelined once again. He was part of the ODI squad in Dhaka and had also been selected for the T20I leg of the tour.
According to a statement from Cricket West Indies (CWI), Joseph “has been recommended for consultation with a specialist in England to start the rehabilitation process.”
Before the Bangladesh series, Joseph had missed both Tests in India due to an unspecified injury and has not played any competitive cricket since the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) ended in September, where he represented Guyana Amazon Warriors in five matches.
Left-arm seamer Jediah Blades has also been ruled out of the Bangladesh and upcoming New Zealand tours after suffering a stress fracture in his lower back. The 23-year-old will return home for rehabilitation.
Allrounder Akeal Hosein and left-arm pacer Ramon Simmonds have been added to the West Indies squad for the remaining two ODIs against Bangladesh. Both players were already part of the T20I squad for the final leg of the tour.
West Indies lost the opening ODI by 74 runs on a challenging Dhaka pitch on October 18. The next two matches are scheduled for October 21 and 23.
