West Indies have added Shamar Springer to their squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh, with the seam-bowling all-rounder replacing Keemo Paul, who will return home for personal and family reasons, Cricket West Indies (CWI) confirmed.
The 28-year-old Springer has represented West Indies in three ODIs and 12 T20Is but is yet to make his Test debut. His inclusion provides the team with another all-round option ahead of the upcoming Bangladesh tour.
Springer has scored 1,043 runs in 23 first-class matches at an average of 32.59 and claimed 58 wickets at 27.87. He enjoyed an impressive batting campaign for Barbados in the 2026 West Indies Championship, scoring 251 runs in four matches at an average of 50.20. With the ball, he took seven wickets across eight innings at 42.00.
According to Cricket West Indies, Ojay Shields and Nial Smith were also considered as potential replacements for Paul. However, both players were ruled out due to injuries.
West Indies face further absences for Bangladesh tour
West Indies will also be without white-ball captain Shai Hope, who has been rested for the series, and fast bowler Alzarri Joseph, who was withdrawn due to workload-management reasons.
Paul had initially joined the squad as Joseph’s replacement before his own departure created another vacancy. Springer has now been brought in to strengthen the team’s options for the two-Test assignment.
Springer and Paul were both part of West Indies’ recent white-ball tour of India. The Caribbean side lost the three-match ODI series 2-1 before drawing the five-match T20I series 2-2. The final T20I in Bengaluru was washed out.
Springer’s first-class experience could prove valuable as West Indies prepare for the challenges of playing Test cricket in Bangladesh. His potential debut will depend on the team’s final selection and the conditions during the series.
Bangladesh vs West Indies Test series schedule
West Indies will begin their preparations with a three-day warm-up match in Dhaka from October 22 to 24.
The first Test will be played in Mirpur from October 28 to November 1, while the second Test is scheduled to take place in Sylhet from November 5 to 9.
The series presents an opportunity for West Indies to assess their squad depth and build momentum in the longest format. Springer will be hoping to earn his first Test cap and make an impact with both bat and ball.
