Virat Kohli continues to shine in ODIs despite questions about his future and the 2027 World Cup. At 37, he remains India’s most prolific century-maker in the format. After his 135 off 120 balls led India to victory in the first ODI against South Africa in Ranchi, batting coach Sitanshu Kotak urged fans to focus on the present.
“There’s no point talking about all this,” Kotak said. “He’s batting brilliantly, his fitness is perfect, and his performance speaks for itself. The 2027 World Cup is two years away, so we should just enjoy watching him play.”
Kotak highlighted the value of experienced players like Kohli and Rohit Sharma, 38, who continue to perform and guide the dressing room. Rohit has scored 73, 121*, and 57 in his last three ODI innings.
Despite limited international game time, Kohli and Rohit have delivered match-winning partnerships in consecutive matches. After an unbeaten 168-run stand against Australia in Sydney, they added 136 against South Africa, with Kohli scoring 74* and 135, and Rohit 121* and 57.
“They are such experienced players, and partnerships like today’s make a huge difference,” Kotak said. “They bat brilliantly and contribute immensely to the team.”
