The Women’s T20 World Cup journey of Sri Lanka and Scotland is over. In the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 being played in UAE, two teams have been eliminated from the mega event. India beat Sri Lanka by a huge margin of 82 runs to knock them out of the tournament, while South Africa knocked out Scotland.
In the Group A match played at the Dubai Stadium, India batted first and scored 172 runs for the loss of three wickets in the allotted 20 overs, in response to which the entire Sri Lankan team collapsed for 90 runs in 19.5 overs.
Kavisha Dilhari scored 21, Anushka Sanjivani scored 20 and Uma Kanchivani scored 19 runs. Arundhati Reddy and Asha Sobhana took 3 wickets and Renuka Singh 2 wickets for India.
Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur was the top scorer with an unbeaten 52 runs, Smriti Mandhana with 50 runs and Shefali Verma with 43 runs.
After Pakistan and Australia, this was Sri Lanka’s third consecutive defeat against India, after which they were eliminated from the event.
Chasing the target of 167 runs set by South Africa for victory in the Group B match, Scotland was restricted to 86 runs.
This is Scotland’s third consecutive defeat in the tournament; South Africa has won two matches and lost one match.
