Steve Smith is set to rejoin the Australian squad ahead of the first Test against Sri Lanka, as confirmed by Cricket Australia on Monday. The middle-order batter has been cleared to return after a specialist medical review following an elbow injury sustained during a Big Bash League match for Sydney Sixers.
Smith, who injured his right elbow while fielding in a rain-affected game against Sydney Thunder, will now travel to Dubai to prepare for the two-match series. With Pat Cummins on paternity leave, Smith is expected to lead the Australian side in the Test series.
