A West Indies men’s team cricketer has been accused of serious sexual misconduct, including sexual assault, harassment, and rape, according to reports from Caribbean-based media. The player’s name has not been officially revealed, but reports suggest he is from Guyana and is currently part of the national team setup.
SportsMax TV, a leading Caribbean sports channel, released a video report stating that at least 11 women have accused the player of sexual misconduct. One of the alleged victims is said to be a teenager. Despite the seriousness of the allegations, no formal charges have been filed yet.
The news was originally reported by the Guyana-based Kaieteur Sports, which quoted one source as saying, “I have heard accounts from no fewer than eleven women, one of them a teenager, who allege that they have been sexually assaulted, raped, or subjected to unwanted sexual advances by him.”
SportsMax also reported that there have allegedly been attempts to cover up the matter. When the outlet contacted Cricket West Indies (CWI) for a response, CWI President Kishore Shallow said, “Cricket West Indies is unaware of the circumstances and, therefore, is not in a position to comment at this time.”
Lawyer Nigel Hughes, who was contacted by one of the alleged victims two years ago, confirmed the cricketer was part of the West Indies squad that famously defeated Australia at the Gabba in January 2024. Hughes said the issue lost attention after the player returned home from the tour, where he was welcomed as a hero in Guyana. However, he also confirmed that fresh inquiries into the matter have been made in recent days.
So far, there is no official word on whether an investigation is underway. Fans and critics alike have urged CWI to take action and provide clarity.
