Maaz Ahmed Sadaqat, born on 15 May 2005 in Peshawar, is one of the brightest young names emerging from Pakistan’s cricket system. A stylish left-handed batter who also bowls slow left-arm orthodox, Maaz has already built a reputation as a calm, confident and multi-talented cricketer capable of performing under pressure.
Early life and youth career
Maaz grew up in Peshawar, where he quickly caught attention in age-group cricket. He represented Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Under-19s from a young age and announced himself with a five-wicket haul on debut in 2019. During the 2020–21 PCB National U19 One-Day Tournament, he became one of the standout performers after scoring 363 runs, including a century.
He later played the 2021 ACC Under-19 Asia Cup and represented Pakistan in the 2022 ICC Under-19 World Cup, marking a steady rise through Pakistan’s youth system.
Domestic career and rise through the ranks
Maaz made his first-class debut for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on 27 October 2022 in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy. Since then, he has featured in more than 20 first-class matches, scoring over 1,200 runs with an average close to 39. His resume includes a first-class century along with multiple half-centuries.
With the ball, he has produced important spells, including a five-wicket haul (5 for 80) in the format, proving his value as a genuine all-rounder.
He made his List A debut in March 2023 and later scored a century (114), highlighting his adaptability across formats. His left-arm spin has earned him wickets at key moments, making him effective in both long and short formats.
Breakthrough in T20 and franchise cricket
Maaz rose to national attention with his Pakistan Super League debut for Peshawar Zalmi in 2025. In his very first match, he delivered a match-winning 55 off 33 balls, rescuing his team after an early collapse. His fearless attitude and ability to handle pressure impressed skipper Babar Azam, who praised the youngster’s maturity and confidence.
Alongside his PSL success, Maaz has become a standout performer for Pakistan Shaheens. He played a remarkable knock of 79 not out off 47 balls against India A in the Rising Stars Asia Cup and also picked up two wickets in the same game.
He continued his strong form with a blistering 96 not out off 54 balls against Oman, further proving his dominance in T20 cricket.
Earlier, in the Top End T20 series, he smashed 104 off 59 balls for Pakistan Shaheens, strengthening his reputation as a powerful striker with composure and intelligence.
Playing style and strengths
Maaz is a clean, technically sound left-handed batter who can play multiple roles — from stabilising an innings to accelerating on demand. His spin bowling adds balance to any XI, and his cricketing awareness reflects maturity beyond his age.
He thrives under pressure, often producing his best performances in tight situations.
