Multan Sultans’ owner Ali Khan Tareen has made a startling claim regarding the future of fast bowler Ehsanullah, stating that he may never bowl at high speeds again.
Ehsanullah had an impressive run in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2023 season, where he emerged as the second-highest wicket-taker for Multan Sultans. Known for his blistering pace, he bowled at speeds of up to 150 km/h during the tournament.
The young pacer made his T20 debut for Pakistan against Afghanistan in March 2023. However, during his One Day International (ODI) debut against New Zealand in April 2023, Ehsanullah suffered a significant elbow injury.
After months of recovery, he made a comeback in December 2024, representing the Dolphins in the Champions T20 Cup. Unfortunately, his performance was far from his previous form, taking only two wickets in four matches, with an average of 62.5 and an economy rate of 11.19. He went wicketless in three of those matches.
Ali Khan Tareen has placed the blame on the surgeons responsible for Ehsanullah’s operation, claiming their mishandling has drastically affected the bowler’s speed and performance. According to Tareen, the surgeons admitted that Ehsanullah’s arm would never fully straighten, a critical issue that has permanently impacted his bowling action.
“This is very unfortunate,” said Tareen. “A mistake on their part has potentially ended a promising career. Before his injury, Ehsanullah was clocking 155 km/h, but now he can only bowl at speeds between 130 to 135 km/h in domestic matches.”
The situation underscores a tragic turn for a rising star in Pakistan cricket, as Ehsanullah’s future in fast bowling remains uncertain due to the lasting effects of his injury and subsequent surgery.
