England defeated Pakistan by an innings and 47 runs in the first Test match of the series played in Multan.
On the fourth day of the first Test of the three-match series in Multan, Pakistan resumed their incomplete first innings at 152 for 6, needing 116 more runs to avoid an innings defeat.
Aamir Jamal and Agha Salman, who added 69 runs for the seventh wicket yesterday, started batting again, and Salman soon completed his half-century.
Agha Salman batted confidently and put on 109 runs for the seventh wicket with Aamir Jamal, who at one point looked as if he would be able to score his second century of the match, but an inbound delivery from Jack Leach. He was dodged and declared LBW.
Agha Salman played a turn of 63 runs, and the Pakistan team lost the seventh wicket for 191 runs.
Aamir Jamal, on the other hand, also completed his half-century, thanks to which Pakistan had an illusory hope of avoiding an innings defeat, but no player from the other end could support him.
Shaheen Shah Afridi got an opportunity as soon as he came to the crease when the English fielder failed to hold his catch, but the fast bowler could not capitalize on the opportunity and went on to score 10 runs.
After that, it did not take long for England to wrap Pakistan’s checkerboard; Naseem Shah hit a six on the first ball and was stumped on the next ball, while Abrar Ahmed could not come to bat due to ill health.
The entire Pakistan team returned to the pavilion on 220 runs, and England won the match by an innings and 47 runs; Aamir Jamal scored 55 runs.
It should be noted that Pakistan won the toss and decided to bat first and scored 556 runs thanks to the centuries of captain Shaan Masood, Abdullah Shafiq and Agha Salman, as well as 82 runs from Saud Shakeel.
In reply, England scored 823 for seven thanks to Joe Root’s double and Harry Brook’s triple century, as well as a record partnership of 454 runs between the two and took a first-innings lead of 267 runs.
In the second innings of the match, Pakistan’s top order flopped badly, and six players returned to the pavilion for 82 runs. Agha Salman and Aamir Jamal scored half-centuries to avoid defeat in the match for a day, but they also gave the team an inning. They could not avoid the defeat, and the whole team piled up 220 runs and faced the defeat of the innings.
Harry Brook was adjudged Man of the Match for his brilliant triple century.
