Where will the Champions Trophy be held? A decision is expected in the ICC board meeting today. Various options, including the hybrid model and minus India formula, will be considered in the virtual meeting.
The PCB chairman made it clear to the ICC that if the hybrid model is adopted, they will not go to India in the future or play at a neutral venue from India. PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi said that they may be hurt but will not tolerate disrespect.
According to media reports, three options are expected to be considered in the meeting. The first option is that Pakistan should host but India’s matches should be held at a neutral venue. The second option is that all matches should be moved to a neutral venue but the hosting rights should remain with Pakistan. The third option is that Pakistan should host and India should take a leave. However, the ICC board meeting will decide whether Pakistan should host the Champions Trophy or a hybrid model should be adopted.
Earlier, in a conversation with a global news agency, an ICC spokesperson confirmed that this matter will be discussed in the ICC meeting on Friday this week, but the spokesperson did not give further details.
It should be noted that the ICC Champions Trophy is to be held in Pakistan next year, while India has already refused to come to Pakistan. Since India’s refusal, various news has been coming out regarding the holding of the Champions Trophy, however, the Pakistan Cricket Board has stood by its decision to hold this tournament in Pakistan and has rejected India’s proposal to hold its matches in another country.
This tournament is to be held in Pakistan from February 19 to March 9, but no such schedule has been released yet as to who will play whom and when.
