West Indies wicketkeeper-batsman Nicholas Pooran broke The Universe boss Chris Gayle’s world record for most sixes in a year.
According to a report by sports website Cricinfo, West Indies’ aggressive batsman Nicholas Pooran hit 139 sixes in T20 cricket in 2024, the highest number of sixes by any batsman in a single year. The highest number of hits is sixes.
Nicholas Pooran has hit 36 sixes in IPL this year and is also the first to hit more sixes in a single tournament. He hit 31 sixes in ILT20 and 19 sixes in The Hundred, while in T20 International, he hit 36 sixes. 34 and hit 17 sixes in the T20 World Cup.
Nicholas Pooran also broke former West Indies aggressive batsman Chris Gayle’s world record in 2015. Nicholas Pooran scored 97 runs off 43 balls in a Caribbean Premier League (CPL) match and made his name during the innings in which he hit nine sixes.
Chris Gayle hit 135 sixes at an average of 1,012 balls (six at 7.50) in 36 innings in T20Is in 2015, while Nicholas Pooran averaged 8.23 in 57 innings and hit 139 sixes on 11 hundred and 45 balls.
Nicholas Pooran hit 92 sixes to fast bowlers and 47 sixes to spinners, while Chris Gayle hit 68 sixes to fast bowlers and 66 to spinners. Chris Gayle hit 73 sixes against fast bowlers in 2011 and is second.
Nicolas Pooran has hit 79 sixes in middle overs, 32 sixes in dead overs and 28 in powerplay, while Nicholas Pooran also holds the record for most sixes in middle overs, with Chris Gayle hitting 71 sixes in 2012.
It should be noted that the world record for most sixes in a calendar year in T20 cricket has been chiefly held by Chris Gayle. Chris Gayle has hit 135 sixes in 2015, 121 in 2012, 116 in 2011 and 112 in 2016.
