The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has unveiled the names of four cricketers who will be inducted into the Hall of Fame for the year 2024. The distinguished list includes former Test cricketers and national captains Mushtaq Muhammad, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Saeed Anwar, and Misbah-ul-Haq.
These cricketing icons were selected through an independent and transparent voting process. The voting panel comprised former male and female cricketers including Wasim Akram, Zaheer Abbas, Azhar Ali, Bismah Maroof, and Nain Abidi, alongside sports journalists and analysts.
Mushtaq Muhammad:
Mushtaq Muhammad represented Pakistan from 1959 to 1979 and also served as the team captain. Under his leadership, Pakistan secured its first Test victory in Australia in 1977. He was also the coach of the Pakistan team that reached the ICC Men’s World Cup final in 1999.
Inzamam-ul-Haq:
Inzamam-ul-Haq played international cricket from 1991 to 2007 and was a key member of Pakistan’s 1992 World Cup-winning squad. He remains one of Pakistan’s most successful ODI batsmen, amassing over 11,739 runs in the format.
Saeed Anwar:
Known for his elegant batting style, Saeed Anwar represented Pakistan from 1989 to 2003. He scored a total of 31 centuries and 68 half-centuries during his career and holds the record for the most ODI centuries (20) by a Pakistani cricketer. Anwar also notched three centuries and as many half-centuries in the 1996, 1999, and 2003 World Cups.
Misbah-ul-Haq:
Misbah-ul-Haq played for Pakistan from 2001 to 2017. Under his captaincy, Pakistan achieved the top spot in the ICC Test Team Rankings in 2016. Misbah was also part of the squad that won the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2009.
Expressing their gratitude, Mushtaq Muhammad, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Saeed Anwar, and Misbah-ul-Haq thanked the PCB and the jury for their inclusion in the Hall of Fame.
The PCB traditionally inducts two cricketers into the Hall of Fame each year. However, this year, four cricketers were honored as no inductees were announced in 2023.
The Hall of Fame already includes legends like Abdul Qadir, A.H. Kardar, Fazal Mahmood, Hanif Mohammad, Imran Khan, Javed Miandad, Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Younis Khan, and Zaheer Abbas.
