The former Australian captain is keen to become an international coach but is not available to coach any team yet. Ricky Ponting has revealed that he has been approached to become India’s next head coach but is only looking at the offer as an option.
According to Cricinfo, the Indian Cricket Board is busy looking for a head coach and in this regard, the last date for applications has been fixed on May 27. However, after being contacted by Ricky Ponting and his possible refusal, India is facing a lot of difficulties in finding a head coach.
Regarding this Ricky Ponting said, “I am considering becoming India’s head coach, but my current work may be affected in the meantime. I am currently involved with the head coach at Delhi Capitals and a television station in Australia, so I feel that now is not the right time to do anything else.”
“I have seen many reports about it, usually these things already pop up on social media. But anyway, during the Indian Premier League (IPL) there were some discussions to know whether I want to be the head coach of the Indian team or not,” said Ponting.
He said. “I would love to be the senior coach of the national team, but for me, there are other things in life that are more important than spending time at home, and it is also clear that when you work with the Indian team, you cannot join the IPL team, this also prevents him from becoming a head coach.”
“The head coach of any national team is a job for 10 or 11 months of the year, and if I wanted to do it, it wouldn’t fit into my lifestyle and those things, because I’m not going to give up my lifestyle,” he said.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have also offered Stephen Fleming, Gautam Gambhir and Justin Langer for head coach of the Indian Cricket team. The BCCI says the head coach’s role will be for 3-and-a-half years from July 2024 to December 2027 across all three formats.
